7U 84hp Eurorack Case

THERE ARE TWO PIECES OF ADVICE for beginners you read about time and again on the Eurorack forums. Number one: abandon the hobby ASAP. It’s a black hole that will eat all your money. And number two: if you’re going to ignore advisory number one, then get a bigger case than you think you’ll need.

Three years ago, I put together a case with one 3U row, 84hp in width. I truly thought that would be the end of it. I had a nice little collection of modules I was sure would keep me busy exploring for the foreseeable future.

But my heart is very lustful, and there are so many modules.

This year, I began working on a new case, still 84hp in width, but with two 3U rows and one 1U row between them. 130% more capacity than the first case. There aren’t as many 1U modules available as 3U modules, but there is still a wide selection. And ostensibly, I added the 1U row to at least hold a larger screen that came with one of my 3U modules, which itself sports an impossibly tiny version of said screen on its front panel. Up to this point, I had not been able to use the larger screen.

This case is once again laser cut from birch plywood. I added a detachable stand that angles the case at 10°. I reused the set of TipTop Z-rails from the first case and added two more sets.

There is still some space left in the new case for a few more modules, but then I truly hope that will be the end of it. Fortunately, time is on my side. If I were 28 instead of 68 and going on death, I think I’d be in real freaking trouble. And I’m not counting on it, but maybe I can sell one or two of these cases on Etsy and recoup a few pennies.
