Piano Light

KAREN DESIRED A LIGHT for her electronic piano. The piano doesn’t have a surface upon which you can comfortably set a traditional piano light. Nor does it have the sort of edges one might clamp a light onto.

However, we had bought the stand CASIO made for the piano, and the stand had cross braces, so I designed the light’s armature to use a cross brace as its mounting point.

The lighting source consists of strips of LEDs. A capacitive switch turns them on or off. The LED housing tilts and the armature articulates forwards and backwards. The armature is not exactly gossamer, but it does provide the added benefit of helping support the rather flimsy music stand that came with the piano.
