Fire Bowl
A Project From 2014
ONE OF OUR NEIGHBORS let us borrow their fire pit for a party, and well, that was that. We wanted one. But our neighbor’s was wood-burning, and I wanted to try propane, so I sourced a burner unit, propane tank and a regulator.
A big stainless steel mixing bowl served as the “pit,” and the bowl was filled with fire glass to cover the burner. The stand was constructed from pine and then painted.
We used it for three or four years, but eventually, I gave it away. It didn’t radiate as much heat as we’d hoped. Maybe the bowl’s shape focused all the infrared energy straight up and shot it into space. Also, I was hoping for a super clean burning experience, but even with propane, if your burner is designed to produce yellow flames, soot forms.
… and I gouged my shin on the pointy legs a few times. 🤪
